Our K9 teams operate under the direction of our county's Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Department.  That means, before we are called to assist with a mission, a 911 call has been made to report the situation in need and then the 911 dispatcher contacts the county's Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue team to organize it's people and respond.  At that point the IC (incident command officer) has the option to ask for assistance from a K9 team.
